RPAS in Australian Airspace 2017 Conference
Scott & Dave from Blue Sky Vision Media recently attended the 2nd annual conference on the safe integration of RPAS into Australian airspace at RMIT university & the Avalon Airshow.
Delegates from the Australian Defence Force, Air Services, ATSB and industry discussed themes ranging from policy and regulations to new technologies and possibilities for the unmanned aviation sector. The Civil Aviation Safety Authority has committed to the safe integration of RPAS into the Australian aviation industry. And while everyone acknowledges there is more work to be done, the signs are very encouraging for the future or RPAS in Australia.

Stellar X8 Impresses at Australia's First Consumer Tech Expo
Blue Sky Vision Media, in partnership with Innoflight & Beyond Visual Line of Sight has launched the brand new Stella X8 onto the Australian aerial photography market. Huge crowds watched on as Innoflight's chief designer, Australian Ryan Vu demonstrated the amazing stability and smoothness of this medium sized aircraft. The Stella X8 represents several significant advancements in aerial photographic technology. The new, customed designed Jupiter JM-1 flight controller works seemlessly with the high precision GOS and Magnometer module, raising the bar on controllability and feel for the pilot. The Jupiter flight control module has also been released in a true, triple redundant flight control configuration, allowing professionals to fly with extra confidence knowing their payload and aircraft are protected by superior redundancy. The Meditate 3 axis Gimbal is specifically designed for three of the world's best and most popular cameras, the Canon 5D, Lumix GH and the revolutionary Sony A7 series. The Stella X8 is built with precision and care. The design allows the craft to compactly fold away for easy transport. With an overall take off weight of 10 kilograms the Stella performs well, quoting a 15 to 18 minute flight time per charge. Inspire 1 - Precision Carbon Fiber Propellers - Now In Stock
Many DJI Inspire 1 users are now using the quick release props supplied to them by DJI in place of the original twist on props, unaware of the danger these propellers pose to the craft. There have been several documented problems with this propeller design, specifically the failure of the plastic locking plate, which is bolted to the top of the motors. With continued use this plate loses it strength and becomes a significant risk to the craft. Many pilots have seen this plastic component split apart at the point where the 2 bolts pass through. Should this happen to your inspire, the prop will be thrown off and the craft will crash.
Unfortunately we have experienced this problem first-hand, which lead us to seek a safer and more robust set up. At Blue Sky Vision Media, we run two Inspire 1s as part of our UAV fleet and as professional operators we need to have full confidence in our craft. Our solution to this problem came in the form of the Xoar Precision 13 x 4.5 carbon fibre prop. These precision made propellers fit easily to the Inspire 1 aircraft, with metal plates mounted above and below. They are beautifully balanced ensuring minimum vibration, keeping your camera as still as possible. This system does away with any plastic components, greatly reducing the risk of failure. We have been running these propellers for several months now and they have performed perfectly. We highly recommend all inspire pilots make the switch.
Blue Sky Vision Media acts as Australian distributor for these propellers. They can be bought online through our site for $90 per pair, plus postage.
